Elmhurst Presbyterian Church originally founded the Elmhurst Family Pride Fest as a way to celebrate Pride month and the LGBTQ members of their congregation. But a few years ago, they brought the Elmhurst Pride Collective into the partnership to bring the festival to the size and recognition that it is known for today. Now in its 8th year, with hundreds of families participating each year, it's one of the biggest Pride events in Chicagoland.
The fest is ever-evolving and growing. It is impressive to see the pivots that were made during the pandemic, the adjustments for weather, and improvements year after year based on feedback from the community. That's because this group truly listens and wants this event to be a representation of the inclusive and collaborative community we are a part of.
The Elmhurst Family Pride fest is organized as a collaboration with the Elmhurst Presbyterian Church and the Elmhurst Pride Collective, whose mission is to show support for the LGBTQ+ community and build a larger network of community allies committed to making Elmhurst safe and inclusive.
The Elmhurst Pride Collective assists Elmhurst businesses and organizations in their efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all, including LGBTQ+ families, friends, and allies, and people of all races, ethnicities, and religions. They create connections among local businesses and organizations that are looking for partnerships and networking opportunities to achieve similar goals in our community. They host a variety of social events and educational programming for local businesses and organizations and the community at large.
The Elmhurst Pride Collective was formed in 2019 by a group of residents, business owners, and community leaders. Their mission is to foster and promote a safe and inclusive environment for all, including LGBTQ+ families, friends, and allies, and people of all races, ethnicities, and religions, by creating connections, sharing resources, and celebrating our diverse community.
The EPC brings together a wide array of local businesses, organizations, and neighbors, who share their goals and are committed to making Elmhurst, Illinois, a welcoming place to live, learn, and grow. They strive to celebrate, recognize, and empower all the diverse members of the community.
It is comprised of 8 board members – made up of a wide range of volunteers from the community: many are members or parents of the LGBTQ population, local business owners, representative from Elmhurst University, mental health professionals, just to name a few of the roles these leaders have in the local community.
Over the years, many local organizations, businesses and community groups have added to the town's excitement of the festival, like exclusive limited release items and products, decorated windows around town, just to name a few.
Don't have anything to wear? EPC has you covered! They have shirts, tanks, and sweatshirts for sale, and also yard signs, custom items from local artisans, and more! Proceeds from the items purchased through the Elmhurst Pride Collective go towards building a more inclusive Elmhurst for all!
