From the moment you turn off of the busy highway on the lush tree-lined winding road up to the resort, you are transported. The sparkling sun reflecting off the water surrounding the rustic stone walls of the hotel creates a magical feeling as you approach the hotel. The first impression upon walking into the resort is breathtaking – from the floor to ceiling windows in the lobby to the two story circular stone fireplace welcoming you into the Hearth Lounge. Even though the hotel was built in the 80's, it gives off a very mid-century modern resort in the Berkshires vibe. If you’re lucky, you may get to witness a wedding happening on the grounds; a romantic backdrop being surrounded by trees all around the resort.

The rooms are spacious, with comfy beds and a beautiful view! I love that all the room balconies look out into the woods - and if you're on the ground floor, the doors don't open, which gave me a lot of piece of mind with little ones in the room. The kids were SO excited and surprised when we checked in and received a bag full of pool toys and snacks for movie night, which come complimentary with the Stay and Swim package

It's no coincidence that the image of this pool is constantly used for promotional ads for Resort Pass – the indoor atrium and high glass ceilings are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. The stunning view of the large 6 lane pool set among the backdrop of the woods, combined with three whirlpools overlooking the grounds is something you will never forget. I love that there are three separate (very wide!) staircases down into pool, since ladders can be tricky for my kids. One thing to note is that there are no really shallow areas of the pool, so just be sure to bring floaties or puddle jumpers so your little ones can still enjoy the pool without touching the bottom. But let's get to the real reason my husband and I fell in love with Hyatt Lodge as our regular covid day-date rotation spot: the triple hot tub!

The city of Oak Brook is filled with amazing restaurants, but if you truly want a staycation experience without having to leave the property, there are 2 restaurants on-site. Food can be delivered directly to your room or ordered for pick-up if you’re ready to grab dinner on your way back from the pool. But with tables along the window so you can look out over the water, you may not want to miss the dinner view. When the weather is nice, there are also a number of tables directly outside on the patio to watch the sunset.

The Hearth Lounge is a bar and restaurant featuring a wide range of upscale American food options, very well-made cocktails, and an impressive wine list. You may remember it from their Prancer’s Pub pop-up during the holiday season.

The Water's Edge Restaurant offers grab and go breakfast and brunch options, smoothies, cocktails, and coffee drinks. My kids loved the hard boiled eggs and french toast, while my husband and I enjoyed mimosas and an amazing egg white frittata.

Don’t miss the chance to explore the many scenic nature trails winding around the perimeter of the property. The bridge connecting the resort with the corporate building next door (formally owned by the McDonald’s Corporation) was a highlight for my kids. They loved running around the curved walkway and watching the ducks and swans floating around the lake. The trails and stone steps around the water made for a perfect morning of exploring nature, looking for frogs, and skipping rocks. The perfect after-breakfast walking spot – a reminder to slow down and let the kids take the lead on appreciating the little moments together. Watching the slow, gentle laps made by the graceful swans was a peaceful reminder for our family that we can appreciate the little things.
